Texas HB 1605 Kicks Indoctrination Out, Returns Control to SBOE and Parents

Across the nation parents, angry over ideological indoctrination, are demanding transparency and control over what their children are learning. In Texas, the passage of HB 1605 does just that.

President Donald Trump has released his full budget proposal with sweeping cuts as promised during his campaign. Since President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in 1965, the federal government has appropriated nearly $2 trillion -- 10 percent of all K-12 education spending -- to improve the educational outcomes of American students. Yet achievement gaps remain and graduation rates for disadvantaged students are stagnant.
In a great show of “unity” and “cooperation” during the 86th Texas Legislative session, Republicans handed Democrats their goals on a platter: universal Pre-K, expansion of classroom technology, and socialist workforce learning for young children. Since there is always a money trail linked to education today, it appears we should be asking why Republicans are behaving like Democrats.
So much for fiscal responsibility, preserving privacy, promoting federal programs that actually work, and decreasing the federal footprint in education. Congress has passed a $1.3 TRILLION spending bill that will fund the government for ONLY SIX MONTHS. The House passed it by a vote of
Congress replaced No Child Left Behind with Every Student Succeeds Act, promising to return control to the states. However, with the federal government loath to give up power over telling states and districts what they must do, there are signals that we can expect a showdown as states begin the implementation of ESSA.
